Now you can pay not only by token, but also you can use electronic ticket Podorozhnik – which is cheaper than token. Besides you can use a special ticket which enables to use all kinds of transport within 90 minutes.

It is an optimal variant for a tourist who has come for a couple of days and who is not going to travel by public transport a lot. You can buy a token at every station in ticket offices and terminals. We advise you to buy several tokens at once not to stand in a queue.

Banking cards with MasterCard PayPass technologies and Visa PayWave enable you to pay for the trip instantly. The fare is also 45 rub. You can just apply  yourcard to the green circle of the metro turnstile.

Guest Card

spb cardGuest Card is a universal electronic card for tourists which includes visiting the best museums and excursions, electronic transport ticket and special offers and discounts including  hotel reservation, visiting restaurants and cafes.

It is especially economical for foreign tourists because the tickets to the museums for them are much more expensive but the Guest card is universal for everybody.

There are different cards depending on the length of your stay:

For 2 days (48 hours) – 3 200 rub.
For 3 days (72 hours) – 4 200 rub.
For 5 days (120 hours) – 5 000 rub.
For 7 days (168 hours) – 5 500 rub.

The guest card includes a guidebook showing the variety of tourist opportunities in St. Petersburg. There you can find the description of top and less famous sights, rules of using your transport ticket and other useful information, for example, how to get to the museums in the suburbs.

Buses, trams and trolley buses in St. Petersburg

spb tramUnlike Moscow in the Northern capital there are many places which are far from the underground. For example the Mariinskiy theatre, Marinal museum or the Usupov Palace. It is better to get there by taxi or by a route bus which are more popular in the center of the city. In the outskirts you had better use state buses, trams and trolley buses because they can easily avoid traffic jams.

Using state buses, trams and trolley buses you should pay to the conductor, who will come to you when you drop in, or directly to the driver. The information about way of payment is located near the doors.

Route buses can be recognized by a smaller size and a letter “K” in front of the number. Please pay attention that a route bus ( for example “K10”) and buses (10) with the same numbers run differently.

Taxis in St. Petersburg

  • If you need to get somewhere at night, for example to a club or see the raising of the bridges.
  • If you have a lot of luggage.
  • If there is a group of people it is a bit more expensive than going by bus or the underground.

A trip from the airport to the center of the city can vary from 600 up to 1000 rub (year 2017).
