Svetlana Kalinchenko

Svetlana Kalinchenko

MD, PhD, professor, Head of Endocrinology Department offering a Holistic Medicine Training Program, People’s Friendship University of Russia, Scientific Director at the Clinic of Professor Kalinchenko, Vice-President of ISSAM, President of ISSAM representative offices in Russia, member of the American Society of Endocrinologists, editor-in-chief of the journal “Questions of Dietetics” (Moscow, Russia)

Svetlana Yurievna Kalinchenko graduated with honors from the Faculty of scientific and scientific-pedagogical cadres of the MMA named after I.M.Sechenov (first graduation). Among the best students, she completed an internship at University clinics in Germany and Spain. At the institute, she delved into the issue of the influence of sex hormones on the somatic and mental state of a person. She was repeatedly awarded as the best young scientist. A year after graduation, the first scientific articles were published, and in 1998, under the guidance of Professor G.I. Kozlov, defended her Ph.D. thesis on “Hormonal treatment of male transsexualism and its side effects”.

While studying in residency at the Endocrinological Research Center PAMH (ESC PAMH), she specialized in sexology with the founder of Soviet sexology and sexopathology, Professor G.S. Vasilchenko, which influenced the choice of the topic for further scientific research.

In 1993, together with Professor G.I. Kozlov organized the first group of therapeutic andrology in Russia, which she later headed. In 2003, the andrology group was separated into the department of andrology and urology as part of the reproduction department of the ESC PAMH.

Since 1998, one of the first in the country and the world has begun to develop the topic of prevention and treatment of aging in men. In 2006 he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic “Age-related androgenic deficiency. Clinic. Diagnostics. Treatment”. In 2006, in collaboration with Academician I.I. Dedov publishes the monograph “Age-related androgenic deficiency in men”, which opened a new era in medicine – the era of hormone replacement therapy in men, including men with benign prostatic hyperplasia. S.Yu. Kalinchenko advocates an innovative approach to the cardiovascular and hormonal safety of androgen therapy.

To prove the metabolic safety of androgen therapy, S.Yu. Kalinchenko initiated and received in 2005 permission from the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation to conduct a double-blind, placebo-controlled study with a prolonged testosterone preparation, which was later called the Moscow Study. The results of this research are presented in the Ph.D. thesis by Yu.A. Tishova “The role of hypogonadism correction in the treatment of metabolic syndrome in men” (2009), performed under the guidance of S.Yu. Kalinchenko. The results of this study are referenced by world scientists, as well as by the US FDA. In this work, for the first time in the world, the possibility of eliminating both obesity and metabolic syndrome, as well as type 2 diabetes mellitus in men, was shown against the background of hypogonadism compensation.

In addition, S.Yu. Kalinchenko. has repeatedly acted as the principal investigator in the III phase of clinical trials: “Proteostasis and erectile dysfunction. A drug with a stimulating effect on sexual activity “; “Metabolic syndrome in men. The androgenic drug “; “Energy, sexual status and body proportions in men. The androgenic drug “; “Osteoporosis in hypogonadal men. The drug is an inhibitor of bone resorption “; “Diabetes mellitus in men. PDE-5 inhibitor “.

S.Yu. Kalinchenko is one of the world’s leading experts in the treatment of erectile dysfunction. The work of S.Yu. Kalinchenko “Restoration of sexual function after oral administration of testosterone to men with diabetes mellitus resistant to sildenafil citrate” marked the beginning of a new approach to the treatment of erectile dysfunction – a combination therapy with androgens and phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors, which supplanted the surgical treatment of erectile dysfunction.

S.Yu. Kalinchenko in 2008 organizes a thematic improvement course on the topic “Endocrine Aspects of Reproductive Health” at the Faculty of Advanced Training of Medical Workers at the RUDN University, and then, in 2009, the Department of Endocrinology, starting in 2020, the Department of Endocrinology with a course of holistic medicine, at the same faculty. Professor S.Yu. Kalinchenko develops the ideas of an interdisciplinary and holistic approach, both in the prevention and treatment of age-associated diseases. At the Department of Endocrinology, headed by S.Yu. Kalinchenko, laid the foundation for a new direction in the medicine of androgen therapy for women, and developed a new model of medicine – “Medicine 5P”, based on the patented author’s methodology “Quartet of health”. Thanks to the works of S.Yu. Kalinchenko and her students, in 2016 androgen therapy for women began to be used along with traditional methods of menopausal hormone therapy, which was reflected in the recommendations from 2016 of the International Menopause Society (IMS).

Under the guidance of S.Yu. Kalinchenko defended 9 candidate dissertations, currently, 3 doctoral and 3 candidate dissertations are being carried out.

S.Yu. Kalinchenko is a recognized leader in the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of a pandemic of the XXI century – vitamin D deficiency. In 2011, S.Yu. Kalinchenko has developed a unique approach to the prevention and treatment of age-related diseases, which consists of complex therapy aimed at eliminating insulin resistance and oxidative stress.

Has a total of more than 350 publications, of which more than 10 educational and methodological and more than 10 scientific works are used in teaching practice.

The Hirsch index according to the RSCI (for the entire period of scientific activity) – 18. The works of Svetlana Yurievna were cited more than 3000 times.
